Olympians inLisle to Compete June 8th
Track and Field Olympians set to compete in Lisle on June 8th
Saturday, June 8th at Benedictine University in Lisle…records will be broken. 2012 US Olympic Coach Tom Pukstys is helping organize what should amount to the best throwing competition ever held in the Chicago area. Throwing events include the Shot-put, Discus, Hammer and Javelin throw.
The “Chicagoland Throwers Series” started in 2011 with modest hopes to offer local athletes a positive atmosphere to compete in during the summer months. “We play some music and cheer them on for upbeat and supportive atmosphere.” said Pukstys.
For 2013, about 15 Olympians are expected to compete. USA Track and Field decided to target the event for funding to our elite US throwers to be present and that means the level of competition exploded into the international level right away. About 40 of the top US athletes will compete.

As a result of the Olympians being present, the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation decided to sponsor 32 of the top high school throwers in the nation to compete along with the Olympians. “The exposure to the elite athlete will be a tremendous opportunity for the high school athletes who will one day be our elite athletes.” said Pukstys.
The meet is open to local athletes as well, with the elite participants competing from Noon to about 4pm. There is no charge for spectators and they will have up close access to watch the events.
