Continuing Ed Creative Writing Classes at COD Start as Early as July 11th - Registration Open Now
All the gardens are in glorious bloom, why not do the same for your writing? Join A Summer Writing Class and Grow Your Inner Writer!

There is still time to register for writing classes in College of DuPage’s Continuing Education program. The following classes are offered this summer by instructor Laura Ehrke. Experience the joy of writing in these courses, designed to explore techniques, unleash creativity, and put you in the habit of writing on a regular basis. Bring a pen or pencil, notebook and your imagination!

Novel Workshop Saturdays9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Jul 11-18

Writers with a near-complete novel are invited to present and get feedback from others in the same boat! Discuss settings and characters, engage in group writing exercises, and experience the encouragement to get that unfinished masterpiece back on track! Fee: $89
Let the Ink Flow Tuesdays 2-5 p.m.Jul 21 – Aug 4

Be inspired by masterpieces of impressionism to write ‘en plein air.’ Like those master painters, you will be free to express your impressions as you experience them, transcending the binding rules of grammar, logic and order. You may be amazed at the writing that flows from your pen! Fee: $129; Lifleong Learner, $89.
Setting the Scene Tuesdays 6 - 8 p.m.Jul 21 – Aug 4
Compare visually the vision in your mind against what you are writing, adding and changing details as needed. Using techniques similar to story-boarding, focus on the importance of adding details and dimensions to your settings. Reading examples and in-class writing exercises help your scenes come to life. Fee: $69
About the instructor: Ms. Ehrke is a freelance writer who has studied writing at Northwestern University and earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Chicago. She has writing experience as a columnist, feature writer, blogger, corporate staff member, public relations specialist, and creative writer. Her first novel is under contract to be published. She teaches creative writing classes at College of DuPage, College of Lake County, and Harper College, and is a writing coach for private clients.
