New Visions Court Counseling: DUI Statistics During The Holidays

As I was thinking about what to share with my readers this month, I thought I would research DUI Statistics and if there are any correlations to the holidays. This is what I found:

Be Extra Safe Around The Holidays

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is the busiest long-distance-travel period of the year. Many drivers travel 50 miles or more away from their hometown, which is more than any other time in the year. Statistics show this is the most dangerous times to be on the road. In addition, people are celebrating with family and friends during this time and alcohol is typically around at these gatherings.

Many of these car accidents are around the major holidays and are alcohol related. Other reports indicated, Thanksgiving Eve is the biggest night for drunk driving. The U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reports that 40% of traffic-related deaths during Christmas and New Year’s involve drunk drivers. This is a 12% increase over the rest of the month of December.

Do Your Part And Prevent A D.U.I. From Happening

We have all been there. You’re at a bar, a party, or even a friend’s house when someone has had one too many and doesn’t think twice about hitting the road. Drunk drivers are a risk to themselves, others, and even you. Always make sure there is a designated driver, hide keys from those who had too much to drink, ask them to stay the night and plan a great breakfast the next morning for them. We all want to have a great time during the holidays, but we need to be smart and safe.

Have a safe and happy holiday season from the team at New Visions Court Counseling.
