WHEATON, IL — One of DuPage County's finest pups is on the mend after what police are calling a "life-saving surgery." K-9 deputy Bella,10, underwent the emergency operation at VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital, according to a post from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Justin Kmitch, Director of Communications for the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, said Bella had emergency surgery for gastric dilatation-volvulus, which is also known as bloat. Kmitch said Bella's doctors have called her recovery "remarkable" thus far.

Bella is a bloodhound trained to sniff out explosives and narcotics. Here's wishing Bella a swift recovery so she can get back in action.
