Please join us for our discussion of Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. Laura Hillenbrand is best known for her enthralling book, Seabiscuit. In this book, Hillenbrand gives us the story of Louie Zamperini, an Olympic runner in the 1930s who flew B-24s during World War II. After surviving being stranded at sea, Zamperini was taken prisoner by the Japanese, enduring treatment considered harsh even by Japanese standards. By the end of the war, he was a physical and mental wreck, but eventually turned his life around, devoting himself to giving speeches, and found boys’ camps. n Author Hillenbrand is known for her evocative and polished writing, and this evenly-paced story reads like an impossible-to-put-down thriller.
