Lutheran Early Response Team Training

Lutheran Early Response Team Training As of January 2010, by federal guidelines, any volunteers responding to a disaster must be trained and certified or they will be turned away. Over a year ago, Lutheran Church Charities started making plans for providing training for and establishing Lutheran Early Response Teams (LERT) throughout our district.
We welcome and need all skill sets. Nurses, handymen, cooks, drivers, house wives, grunts and gophers are all needed. The lives affected by these crises cry out for a compassionate, Christian response. Whether we are assisting Lutheran congregations, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, or unbelievers, we are motivated by Christ to reach out to all whom He died for, all whom He wishes to bless in His name.
There will be a training session, provided by Lutheran Church Charities, on September 20, 5:30 - 9:00pm at Trinity Green Trails and will prepare team members for credentialing and will focus on the safety, work, and ministry of Lutherans as Early Responders. The core areas covered in the training are:

  • Ministry Opportunities
  • 3 Phases of Disaster Work
  • 4 Phases of Emotions
  • National Credentialing
  • Volunteer Guidelines and Safety

Registration is $20 and light dinner will open at 5:30 PM. For more information, call Ed or Jan Boerman at 630-985-7592; Dianna Bonfield at 866-455-6466, or visit our website for more information or to register.
