Groundbreaking for Lisle Park District's Inclusive Playground
The Lisle Park District is officially breaking ground on their new, universally accessible playground, Discovery Playground.

Lisle, IL – The Lisle Park District is officially breaking ground on their new, universally accessible playground, Discovery Playground: Opportunities Without Boundaries.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 7 at 10:00am at the site of Community Park Playground (1825 Short St., Lisle). The short ceremony will include remarks from Director of Parks and Recreation Dan Garvy, as well as Park District Board of Commissioners President Don Cook. Press and media are welcome to join park district staff, members of the Park District Board of Commissioners, and others involved with the project for the ceremonial start of construction.
Since 2009, Dan Garvy has had a vision for bringing an inclusive playground to the Lisle Community, so this groundbreaking has been much anticipated. “The timing is ripe with our scheduled replacement of our flagship park, aligning with this groundswell of support and national recognition of the importance of building a space that appeals to all ages and ability levels,” Garvy said of the project. “The more we can all make greater efforts of inclusion, across all disciplines, the more we can actually inspire a true sense of community.”

The existing playground in Community Park will be donated to Kids Around the World, a nonprofit organization. They will carefully remove and refurbish the existing playground equipment for re-installation in communities devastated by war and poverty across the globe.
With the help of The Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation, a fundraising effort for the project has been in full swing all year, after a generous donation of $100,000 from the Foundation itself. Community members and businesses interested in contributing to help cover costs for the new playground equipment can donate via Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation’s Facebook fundraiser, on lislepartnersforparks.org, or by check written out to Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation, noting Discovery Playground in the memo line. All donors are recognized on both Lisle Park District and Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation websites, and donations over $500 will be included on a donor wall on-site.
