Daughters Earn Lisle Mom Room Makeover from Chicago-Based HGTV Show
Margo Urban's four daughters kept good on a resolution to "do something big" for their mom by securing their childhood home a renovation on Meg Caswell's "Great Rooms." The episode airs this Saturday evening.
What does it take to be featured on a home makeover show?
Some gumption and some love for your mother, it turns out. Catch HGTV this Saturday evening to meet the Lisle mother whose family rallied to win her this chance.
Steve and Margo Urban have lived in the Meadows subdivision for more than 20 years. Their eldest daughter, Ashley, said the family had experienced some trying medical issues this past year.

“So we wanted to do something for our mom in a big way,” she said.
Then Ashley saw an opportunity on Twitter—HGTV was seeking families to receive room makeovers from “Great Rooms” host Meg Caswell, who dominated the network’s “Design Star” competition. Caswell's show focuses on homes in the Chicago area, and featured another Lisle couple last week.

Ashley said her mother had been talking about getting new furniture and updating the main living space.
“Our family was growing,” Ashley explained. “Not age-wise with us girls grown up, but there are definitely more people over.” It seemed like the perfect gift from daughters to mother.
Entry required the family to submit an entry video. Ashley and her father moved forward with interviews with show producers out of hundreds of entries. She said they learned at the end of November that the home would be featured.
The hard part was keeping the surprise secret for a month, Ashley said.
The family unveiled the surprise about a week before Christmas. Ashley said the family gathered to celebrate her birthday, and she introduced the show’s producer to their mother as her work colleague. The family concocted a ploy to get Margo sitting in front of a computer, where she found a video message from Caswell saying she’d been selected.
The results of the daughters’ Christmastime gift will be unveiled in an episode this Mother’s Day weekend.
“Meg is going to create a gorgeous new great room where rustic meets modern.… It will become a cozy lodge retreat where the entire extended family can entertain, relax, and enjoy,” according to the episode synopses on the HGTV website.
