Lisle's Autumn Geist Makes National Headlines

The skyrocketing price of gasoline is hitting the wallets of everyone across the country, and Lisle is no exception. Lisle resident and Patch contributor Autumn Geist mentioned the price of gas in a Facebook post last week, bemoaning the fact that the nation has been too interested in Charlie Sheen to pay attention to the gas gouging going on at the pump.  Autumn’s post garnered a litany of responses and caught the attention of old high school friend and speech team competitor, Steve Osunsami, who happens to be an ABC News reporter based in Atlanta, Ga.

Osunsami contacted Geist and asked if a camera crew could accompany her on some errands through Lisle, and to check out the prices at the pump.  In the ABC World News Tonight Story, which aired during their Monday broadcast, Geist paid a whopping $68.04 to fill her minivan up with gas. The camera crew followed Geist through the streets of Lisle as she tried to fit as many errands as possible into one trip in an attempt to save on fuel.  

The story went on to report the different prices being paid across the country.  In California, gas prices average close to $4 a gallon and are closer to $3.30 in Atlanta.  Here in Lisle our prices are averaging approximately $3.66 a gallon. 

Osunsami recommended against buying gas near highways or in upscale neighborhoods.  He also reported that a popular cell phone “app,” gasbuddy.com, can help consumers find the best prices in their area.

While Lisle isn’t alone when it comes to high prices for gas, Lisle’s own Autumn Geist certainly garnered national attention in her frustration.
