LSHS Announces Top Ten Students of 2010-11 School Year

○ Whiz Kids' Names: Michael S. Swartz, Reginald R. Jansen, Najid M. Ali, Neal A. Kfoury, Benjamin J. Rowe, Grant M. Fitzgerald, Tijana Popovic, Catherine M. Armitage, Jacob R. Tarasewicz and Daniel W. Young           
○ Whiz Kids' School:
○ Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: These students were declared the school's top ten students of the senior class.
○ Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Starting twenty-four years ago, District 202 has annually taken an evening to recognize not only the success of the students, but also the significance of excellent teachers and caring parents as instrumental to that success. On April 10, held their annual Top Ten Dinner at the .

The students also nominated the teachers who most influenced them during their time at LSHS.

School board president Pam Ahlmann and Superintendent Patricia Wernet addressed the group providing their congratulations and reflections on the success being celebrated. A printed program for the evening featured statements by each of the students illustrating the influence that the teachers have had on them.  In their comments, students recognized that the teacher’s enthusiasm for what they taught and even more importantly, the teacher’s care and concern for their students provided the foundation for this success.  Because of this strong student/teacher connection, the students felt they were more likely to respond to the high standards set by the teachers, ultimately achieving their potential. 

The teachers also provided words of advice or wisdom to help guide students to future success. The teachers encouraged the students to developing personal goals and expectations based on the students knowing themselves and continuing to challenge themselves by “thinking outside of the box.”  The teachers also encouraged the students to continue to recognize the importance of the people around them, developing a balance in their lives by valuing and caring for others.
