LISLE, IL — A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the 2020 armed robbery of a Verizon store in Lisle. Ezekiel Thompson, 30, pleaded guilty to armed robbery with a firearm and the sentence was handed down Tuesday.

His cousin, Arron Thompson, 30, pleaded guilty to armed robbery with a firearm in September 2024 and was sentenced to 22 years in prison in January 2025.

Ezekiel and Arron Thompson came into the Verizon store at 1104 Ogden Ave. around 6:48 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2020, wearing masks and hoods, a news release said. They then aimed a gun at the store's employee and made him open a vault that had cellphones and other electronics inside.

The employee cooperated and the Thompsons filled a duffel bag with items from the vault before using zipties to bind his arms and legs. They then stole the employees keys and cellphone before fleeing in his car.

Both Ezekiel and Arron Thompson were arrested in Woodridge later that day after attempting to flee on foot.

“Cousins Ezekiel and Arron Thompson, without any concern whatsoever for public safety or the rule of law, armed themselves with a gun, disguised their identity and threatened at gunpoint an innocent store employee, causing so much fear that the employee literally begged for his life,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “This type of violent crime has no place in civilized society and in DuPage County, law enforcement stands ready to confront this type of behavior and hold anyone accused of such accountable."
