The Museums at Lisle Station Park Display Work of Accomplished Local Artist
Exhibit Opening for Capturing Culture: The Diverse Art of John Phillips on May 16

Lisle, IL - On Saturday, May 16, art enthusiasts are invited to the opening reception of the exhibit, Capturing Culture: The Diverse Art of John Phillips, from 2:00-4:00pm at The Museums at Lisle Station Park, 921 School Street.
The Museums at Lisle Station Park welcome you to enjoy refreshments while examining John Phillips’ various styles of art, including 3D objects, illustrations and personal artifacts. John Phillips was a local, award-winning illustrator, painter, and designer, whose work has been exhibited at the Art Institute and several galleries throughout the Midwest. The Lisle Park District acquired the John Phillips’ Collection in 1996 after the passing of his wife, Elverda Phillips. Capturing Culture will be on display in the Lisle Depot Museum through Saturday, October 24, 2015. This exhibit was made possible in part by a generous donation from the Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation. To learn more about the Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation, please visit lislepartnersforparks.org.
In addition to the opening reception, there will be two supplemental events this summer in the Netzley-Yender Farmhouse, during which John Phillips’ work will be compared to various styles of art. On Saturday, June 13, at 4:00pm, art historian Wendy Bright will lead a discussion about Art Deco’s influence on American culture and art, comparing this unique, modern style to paintings from the John Phillips’ Collection. On Saturday, August 15, at 4:00pm, we will be viewing the movie Drew – The Man Behind the Poster, followed by a discussion on John Phillips’ illustrations and paintings and the public perception of the term “art.”
