Grocery chain Jewel could be sold off by parent company Supervalu.

Despite analysts boosting the ratings for Jewel's parent company Supervalu, the fate of the company and its chains—including —is unknown.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the company has opened its books to potential buyers. The company could liquidate as it attempts to find its place in an ever-increasing competitive market, according to a recent Chicago Tribune report.

In this region, Jewel's primary competition used to be Dominick's, but that is no longer the case and Jewel—along with many other grocery chains—have struggled as more grocery options offering different levels of prices and product have eaten away at Jewel's audience.
