Rosehill Montessori School Participates in National School Choice Week
The children of Rosehill Montessori School celebrated the Chinese New Year.
Rosehill Montessori School participated in National School Choice week along with 240 other Illinois Schools. National School Choice week ran from January 24 - 31. The week is organized to promote parents having a choice in their children’s education. Participating schools organize different events to promote educational options for all children.
Rosehill’s participation included a Chinese New Year celebration held at the school. Two volunteer families visited the classroom to teach the children about the traditions, food and literature of the Chinese Culture. Yellow and red are the colors of the Chinese New Year and the School Choice Week organization sent Rosehill yellow scarves for all of the children.

“The children really enjoyed the Chinese New Year celebration,” says Suman Lamba, a teacher at Rosehill. “We celebrate the diversity of our school by teaching our children about the customs and traditions of as many cultures as we can.”
“Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China, like Christmas in America,” says Mindy Kujawa, one of the parent volunteers who presented at the Celebration. “I am always excited at the opportunity to engage with the children. Celebrating the New Year at Rosehill provides cultural exchanges and social activities for both the students and their parents.”
