CHICAGO — Following a Thanksgiving Day loss in which his decisions late in the game were widely criticized, Coach Matt Eberflus has been fired by the Chicago Bears, according to multiple reports citing sources close to the team, including ESPN and the New York Times.
The team fell to a record of 4-8 after dropping a 23-20 heartbreaker Thursday on the road at the Detroit Lions.
Eberflus, 54, was hired by the Bears for the 2022-2023 season after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. During his nearly three years at the helm, the Toledo, Ohio-native posted a losing record of 14-32.
The team fell to the Lions on Thanksgiving in the Bears' sixth straight loss.
Eberflus' firing is the first time in franchise history that the Bears made an in-season coaching change.
