Senator Connelly welcomes Benet state champions

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Wheaton) welcomed the Class 4A Basketball state champion Benet Academy Lady Redwings to the Capitol on May 13.

The team’s defeat of the Palatine Vikings of Fremd High School provided the first state women’s basketball championship on March 7 for Benet Academy. The Lady Redwings finished the season ranked in USA Today’s Top 25 nationally-recognized schools. Their season total of 34-3 along with three other state records set new benchmarks for IHSA girl’s hoops.

The team is coached by Joe Kilbride. He is assisted by Kelsey Stone and John Corrigan. The Lady Redwings featured three 1,000-point scorers: Emily Schramek, Emily Eshoo, and Kathleen Doyle. Benet’s team GPA is 3.85/4.00 and eight of the young women are members of the National Honor Society.
