Sister Carolyn Sieg Receives Prestigious Award
Archbishop Daniel Kucers Catholic Leadership Award

(Lisle) - Sister Carolyn Sieg O.S.B. was honored at St. Procopius Abbey in Lisle on Wednesday evening in receiving the Archbishop Daniel Kucers O.S.B. Catholic Leadership Award. The award is given each year to someone showing extraordinary service in the Church. Sister Carolyn recently retired from St. Joan of Arc Catholic School where she was the principal for 50 years. She resides in Lisle at the Monastery in Villa St. Benedict. Over 100 people were in attendance tonight including Abbot Austin, Father Gabriel Baltes and various teachers and staff from St. Joan of Arc along with many from the Benedictione religious community. Archbishop Daniel William Kucera was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 7, 1923. He was educated at St. Procopius Academy (now Benet Academy) and St. Procopius College (now Benedictine University) in Lisle, Illinois. He entered St. Procopius Abbey and received the religious name of Daniel when he professed religious vows as a Benedictine monk on June 16, 1944. On May 26, 1949 he was ordained a priest by Bishop Martin D. McNamara at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet. In time, he became the fifth Abbot at St. Procopius Abbey. On March 5, 1980 Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop Kucera the eighth Bishop of Salina, Kansas. On December 20, 1983 Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop Kucera the tenth Bishop and eighth Archbishop of Dubuque. He was installed as Archbishop on February 23, 1984 at the Five Flags Civic Center in Dubuque. He resigned in 1995 but continues to reside in the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
