Lisle, IL – Lisle Park District’s organic lawn project has officially begun, and has received support from local and nationally recognized organizations.

On Saturday, August 17, in partnership with Midwest Grows Green, Lisle Park District Board of Commissioners President Don Cook was joined by US Congressman Sean Casten, Illinois State Senator Suzy Glowiak, Illinois State Representative Terra Costa Howard, and members of the Lisle community at Connelly Memorial Park as the park district was presented with a generous donation from Stonyfield Organics. Elisa Kurth, a representative from Stonyfield Organics, presented the park district with a $5,000 donation to support the park district’s conversion to organic grounds management. This donation was matched with a check from Jewel-Osco, presented to the park district by Ian Neizke, on behalf of the company.

Stonyfield Organic’s Play Free Initiative promotes stopping the use of harmful pesticides on playing fields, and works with communities across the country to provide resources and tools to make it possible. The park district’s pilot program for organic, pesticide-free maintenance methods began this past spring on four parks; Abbeywood Park, Connelly Memorial Park, Leask Lane Park, and Oak Hill Park.
