Take Back the Night Dupage

Take Back the Night began in the 70s and in 2001
a group of women formally marched to reclaim the space that had been
taken from them. Throughout the years, this movement grew into the Take
Back the Night Foundation and now is an annual event hosted in over 30
countries. In Dupage County, this event has been held annually for the
past 20 years! This is a time for the community to come together,
recognize and support all survivors from all forms of power based
violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment and
more.

So many groups have come together to bring you Take Back the Night including Fempower BU, Karli Educates and Reclaiming Me. This event is for all ages and background, everyone is welcome!

The event will be held in the October 25th from 6-9 at Benedictine
University in the Goodwin Quad Area. In case of rain, the event will be
moved to Goodwin Atrium/Auditorium.

The evening begins at 6pm at Benedictine where guests can meet local
organizations that work together in our local community. There are so
many social issues that intersect domestic violence, from homelessness
to youth development, addiction, eating disorders and more. We also
recognize all the amazing for profit businesses that can help support
survivors, from employment, emotional support and health outlets to cope
with their trauma. That's why we have invited so many amazing
nonprofit and for profit organizations to join us and you can meet them
all! A list of participating organizations are below:

PARK's Martial Arts Academy - PMAA
Alive Center
Youth Outlook
New Name
ANAD - National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders
Reclaim13
Bridge Communities, Inc.
Wrapped In Love WIL

At 6:30 we start with a welcome from FemPower followed by our Keynote
speakers will take the stage. This year, we're pleased to have Karli
Johnson from Karli Educates and Meggie Zayas from Reclaiming Me join us.

7:30 begins our candle lighting ceremony. We light candles and take a
moment of silence for all those who lost their lives to power-based
violence, and a dedication to our community advocate, Lorrie Brenneman
who passed away this year.

At 8:00 we will have a survivors
speak out. Survivors of all ages, genders, orientations and backgrounds
will have the ability to come up and share their stories with the
audience.

8:30 Karli will lead us in chants and cheers as we
come together to end the silence that surrounds these issues, reclaiming
our space and taking back the night!

Don't forget to use #TBTNDupage2016 on social media before and during the event!
