Daylight savings time offers a convenient reminder to check or change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that have replaceable batteries. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), about 3 out of 5 fire fatalities occur in homes with no smoke alarms or non-working smoke alarms.
