VOL Special Workshop Meeting Video 9/26/13--FEMA Grant Application

Lisle has posted the video to go along with the summary (on the village website under the latest flood news tab) of the last Village Board Workshop Meeting. The discussions seemed thoughtful, although a bit confusing at times. You can see near the end where I asked for clarification as to the motion voted upon. I'm still not exactly sure as to the specifics but will be watching this video in its entirety to refresh my memory.

Yes. Lisle will be applying for a grant to purchase the 35+ substantially damaged homes. However, FEMA has indicated that a $4 million project would be considered at this time. I was initially nervous that my home may not be among the candidates as it sits upon levee property. However, Ron from IEMA has assured me that if my damages are over 100% as I had indicated, then it is most likely not a viable option for an elevation project. Furthermore, since benefits cannot be duplicated (example--the money we receive from insurance will be deducted from any FEMA buyout offer unless they were used to repair the house), that will offer up more money for FEMA and the VOL to purchase homes. In addition, more funding sources are being researched. May I suggest looking into the $9-$11 million surplus sitting the the VOL reserves. But that's just me.

Take a look at the video. Many good points were made during the discussions and a lot more questions, I am sure, will arise.
