2 Deaths Confirmed After I-57 Crash Near Peotone Road

PEOTONE, IL - Illinois State Police have confirmed the deaths of two people in a crash between a Chevrolet and semi-trailer that shut down several lanes of Interstate 57 early Thursday afternoon near Peotone Road. The fatal victims were both occupants in the Chevrolet Impala that was involved in the crash at Milepost 328 at 11:58 a.m., police said. Both the driver, Jerry McCullum, 30, of Bradley and the passenger, Bryanna Dean, 20, of Kankakee were ejected from the car as a result of the crash.

Both McCullum and Dean died later at area hospitals. Dean was pronounced dead the day of the crash and McCullum the following morning.

A truck tractor semi-trailer was the other vehicle involved in the crash. The driver involved did not suffer any injuries.

A police narrative indicates the Impala rolled over after striking the semi-trailer in the southbound lanes of I-57, causing the northbound lanes to close when the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of that section of the highway.

Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction officers continue to investigate the crash. All lanes were open on I-57 in the early afternoon.

Charges are pending, according to police.
