2 Critically Hurt in Head-On Crash in Manhattan
First responders had to extract two drivers from the crash site on U.S. 52 near Smith Road Wednesday morning.
MANHATTAN, IL - A head-on crash in Manhattan Wednesday morning sent both drivers to the hospital with critical injuries.
Both a 63-year-old man from Crest Hill and a 33-year-old man from Manhattan are expected to survive after the crash that occurred on a curved section of U.S. 52 just north of Smith Road around 6:15 a.m., according to a report from the Daily Southtown.
The road was closed for four hours as a result of the crash.

"We class (their condition) as critical," said Manhattan Fire Protection District Chief Dan Forsythe. "They (both) had multiple traumas to their bodies."
Both men had to be extracted from their vehicles and taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

The 63-year-old was driving a black 2012 Nissan Rogue and the 33-year-old was driving a red 2008 Toyota Corolla. They both suffered broken bones and possibly internal injuries.
