The 50-year-old woman was struck and trapped beneath a vehicle Monday evening.

MONEE, IL — A 50-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and killed in the parking lot of Amazon's Monee fulfillment center Monday night. Monee police said officers responding to a report of an accident involving a pedestrian found the woman trapped underneath a vehicle near the main entrance of the facility, 6600 W. Monee-Manhattan Road.

Monee firefighters arrived and lifted the vehicle off the woman, who was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

Police said the woman was walking in the Amazon parking lot toward the main entrance at around 6:20 p.m. when she was hit. Both the driver and victim were Amazon employees who were arriving at work, police said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this very difficult time," an Amazon spokeswoman said in an email to Patch. "Unfortunately this was a very sad traffic incident in our parking lot. The safety of our associates remains our top priority.”

The driver is cooperating with investigators, and police said they have "no reason to believe this is anything more than a tragic accident at this time." The Will County Sheriff's Office crash reconstruction unit is assisting with the investigation.
