Nearly 500 Speeding Tickets Doled Out In Will County Sheriff's Ramped Up Patrols

WILL COUNTY — Will County Sheriff's police nabbed nearly 500 drivers for speeding in the month of July, officials said Thursday.

The Will County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday released the results of its efforts to crack down on speeding throughout the month. The sheriff's office partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up traffic safety efforts across the state to reduce speeding. Drivers were advised to expect increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations throughout the month of July.

During the speed limit enforcement campaign, officers intensified enforcement of posted speed limits. Offenders were stopped and ticketed, especially on county roadways, where many speed-related crashes occur.

Will County Sheriff's police issued 488 speeding citations, 3 seat belt citations, 5 for child car seats, 3 for cell phone violations, 21 for suspended/revoked licenses, 39 for uninsured motorists, and 148 other violations, the sheriff's office announced.

The speed enforcement effort was part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign and was made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT.
