Kankakee Woman, 46, Set Fire To Storage Unit With Boyfriend Inside: Kankakee PD

KANKAKEE, IL — A 46-year-old Kankakee woman has been charged with attempted murder and arson after a fire at a Kankakee U-Haul storage facility Monday, police said. The woman is alleged to have set the fire while her boyfriend was inside it, authorities said.

Just after 11 a.m. Monday, Kankakee police were called to the business, 1200 N. Kennedy Drive, for a report of a domestic disturbance between a woman and man. Police spoke with the man and facility management before clearing the scene, officials said.

An hour later, police said officers were called back to the facility for a storage unit fire. Information obtained during the investigation indicated that the same woman involved in the domestic disturbance—identified as Tara Ann Brown—allegedly set fire to the store unit while her male companion was inside, police said. According to officials, she fled before police arrived.

Police continued their investigation and later took Brown into custody. She was taken to the Jerome Combs Detention Center, where she is held on charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson, police said.
