Girl, 10, Dies Days After Truck Crashes Into Creek In Alleged DUI In Kankakee County
The girl was one of 2 children critically injured when the truck they were riding in crashed into partially frozen creek water.
KANKAKEE, IL — One of two children critically injured in a crash in Kankakee County last week died Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Two children were critically injured late Feb. 12, when a pickup truck in which they were riding was driven off the road into two feet of partially frozen creek water in the area of 3700 East Illinois Route 17, the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office said last week. The driver—Phyllis A. Moses, 58, of Pembroke Township—was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The children were taken from the scene to a Chicago-area hospital, where they were both in critical condition as of Friday morning. One child—identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Ombre Mangram, 10, also of Pembroke Township—died Monday, Feb. 16, according to medical examiner records.

The condition of the second child as of Tuesday was not known.
It was not immediately known Tuesday if additional charges for Moses are forthcoming. Patch has reached out to the Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office for more information.
