Kankakee Father's Day Murder Suspect Captured In Arkansas: Police

KANKAKEE, IL — A 21-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the June 21 shooting death of another Kankakee man, police said Friday. The arrest comes more than a month after the 40-year-old man was fatally shot and his father was wounded in the Father's Day shooting.

Isaiah Houston, 21, was identified as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued charging him with first-degree murder, police said.

Police were called just after 3:30 p.m. June 21 to a residence in the 1100 block of East Merchant Street for a report of shots fired. Officers at the scene found two men with gunshot wounds in the front yard. Paramedics with the Kankakee City Fire Department responded and took the victims to Riverside Medical Center, police said.

A 59-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. His injury was determined to be non-life-threatening. The man's son—identified as Randal D. Young, 40, of Kankakee—also suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Kankakee police detectives at the scene recovered multiple pieces of evidence and interviewed witnesses, all of whom were cooperative.

On July 30, Houston was arrested in Arkansas by the United States Marshals Service, the Eastern Arkansas Task Force, and the Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 unit. After fleeing on foot into a wooded area while armed, Houston was taken into custody without incident following a four-hour search. A loaded firearm was recovered, police said.

Houston is currently awaiting extradition to Illinois.
