Kilos of Cocaine Found During Traffic Stop: Police

WILL COUNTY, IL -- Authorities in Will County arrested three people Monday night and said they were in possession of more than $1 million worth of cocaine. Members of the Will County Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit stopped a vehicle they said was observed crossing the center line of Monee-Manhattan Road on multiple occasions near Harlem Avenue around 8:20 p.m., according to a news release. A K-9 search of the vehicle’s trunk allegedly uncovered 20 kilos of wrapped bricks containing cocaine that have a street value of about $1,125,000.

The three occupants of the vehicle -- Jorge Vargas-Moreno, 31, Chicago; Bulmaro Castelan-Diaz, 35, Chicago and Yolanda Tavira-Berrum, 22, La Salle, Illinois -- were all charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and appeared in court on Tuesday.

Authorities said Vargas-Moreno, the alleged driver of the vehicle, appeared “nervous and was trembling” when the car was initially stopped in the Green Garden Township area of Will County.
