Manhattan Man Faces Felony Domestic Battery Charge

MANHATTAN, IL — A Manhattan man is charged with felony domestic battery, criminal damage to property, misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting an officer stemming from a Nov. 6 arrest. John W. Tromp, 45, of the 500 block of East North Street was booked into the Will County jail on Monday afternoon and released less than for hours later, according to jail records.

Tromp was previously arrested on a domestic battery charge in January 2013, and his wife was granted an emergency order of protection against him, according to Will County court records. The order of protection was extended twice before the plaintiff was granted a motion to dismiss it, records show. She likewise was granted a motion to dismiss a divorce petition she had filed on Feb. 21, 2013.

Ten days after the divorce case was dismissed, the domestic battery charge was dropped in Will County.

This week in Will County court, Tromp was ordered not to have contact with the victim or their Manhattan home as a condition of his bond.

Tromp's bond was set at $5,000, according to court records. An assistant public defender was assigned to represent him.
