Manhattan’s Irish Heritage
More activities for Manhattan's Irish Fest at the Historical Museum and Caboose
The celebration of things Irish continues at the Manhattan Historical Museum at 255 S. State St. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm. when the museum opens to feature its continuing exhibit on Irish history and culture. This opening is in conjunction with Manhattan’s Annual Irish Fest and 11 am parade.
The Manhattan Township Historical Society features an exhibit focused on early local Irish families, and how they helped to develop the town. Local community members are displaying their treasured heirlooms, family history and their ties to Ireland. Demographic records present how early Irish families came to the area, took root, and still thrive in the community today generations later.
Learn how these early local hard working families from the Emerald Isle built a life for themselves and made our community what it is today. Many families can be traced back to a time before the formation of the Village of Manhattan and the Wabash Railroad. They were resourceful farmers, lawyers, judges, businessmen and public administrators.

Come visit the 1960s caboose after the parade. Our museum is right on the parade route, so stop in and also find out about Manhattan’s 130 years of history and the Township Historical Society’s coming events. All are welcome to grab a chair and chat about the area’s early days with our friendly curators. As always, our museum is free and open to the public. Hope to see you… Sláinte Mhaith!
