Manhattan Woman, 72, Dies Following Rollover Crash: Coroner

The crash happened Saturday afternoon on Smith Road.

MANHATTAN, IL — A 72-year-old Manhattan woman died in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday afternoon in Manhattan, the Will County Coroner's Office said Monday.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries on the 13000 block of Smith Road.

Fire officials said the first units arrived within six minutes of the initial call for service and found a single vehicle off the roadway, resting on its roof, with one patient trapped inside. The driver—now identified as Jane M. Bross, 72, of Manhattan—required extrication.

Crews stabilized the vehicle and extricated Bross, Manhattan fire officials said. A medical helicopter landed at the scene, and the flight crew assisted MFPD personnel with patient care during ground transport to Silver Cross Hospital, where Bross was taken in critical condition.

She was later pronounced dead at 5:46 p.m., the coroner's office said.
