MANHATTAN, IL — The Village of Manhattan and downtown BBQ spot Arrowhead Smoke Works put their heads together and came up with the perfect excuse to pig out.

Pig in the Parking Lot—a new event that combines food, fun and fitness—is set for Saturday, May 30. The all-day event features a rib cook-off, 5K, hog roast, live music, and family-friendly activities.

The event combines Village Trustee Clint Boone's idea for a town 5K, with Arrowhead Smoke Works owner's vision for a town "backyard barbecue."

"The idea behind Pig in the Parking Lot was really to create a fun, laid-back backyard BBQ style event that brings the community together," Bacon said. "We wanted something family-friendly where people could enjoy great food, cold beer, live music, and just spend the day hanging out with friends and neighbors.

"The rib competition adds a fun competitive element and gives local pitmasters a chance to show off their skills and compete for some bragging rights. People can expect a great atmosphere, smoked BBQ, a whole hog roast, music, activities, and just an all-around fun summer event in Manhattan."
