Woman, 2 Dogs Safe After Attic Fire: Manhattan Fire Officials

MANHATTAN, IL — A woman and two dogs are safe after an attic fire Monday afternoon in unincorporated Manhattan, fire officials said.

At 2:08 p.m. Monday, the Manhattan Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire in the 11600 block of W. Pauling Rd.

Crews on scene encountered a working fire in the attic of a large three-story residence, with smoke and fire visible from the third floor. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack while requesting additional resources for a full still alarm.

The woman and two dogs had safely exited the home prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and brought the incident under control in approximately 10 minutes.

Several neighboring departments assisted with fire suppression and coverage for the district, including Wilmington Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, New Lenox Fire District, Country Club Hills Fire Department, Orland Fire Protection District, and the Romeoville Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
