KANKAKEE, IL — A Kankakee woman is charged with attempted murder, arson and home invasion, after police allege she doused a man in lighter fluid and tried to set him on fire Tuesday.
Kankakee police said Wednesday that around 8:12 a.m. Tuesday they were called for a report of a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of North Greenwood Avenue. Police at the scene were unable to make contact with anyone there, and the residence appeared to be vacant, police said.
Police later learned that a 35-year-old male victim had been in a relationship with Nazhai Hill, 24. Hill had reportedly gone to the man's home in the 800 block of North Greenwood to confront him, police said. When the man did not answer the door, police allege that Hill forced her way inside. There, she found the victim with another female, and a physical altercation ensued, police said.

Hill is accused of causing significant damage to the property during the incident, including breaking windows. Investigators say she then doused the man in lighter fluid and tried to set him on fire. The man was able to flee the residence and sought refuge at a nearby relative's home, police said.
Three hours later, police were again called to the home to assist Kankakee Fire Department with a structure fire. A detached two-car garage and two vehicles were engulfed in flames, police said.

As fire crews and investigators were at the scene, the man returned to the home and told police of the earlier incident involving Hill, according to police.
At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, Hill voluntarily arrived at the Kankakee Police Department, where investigators interviewed her, police said. She was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, arson, and home invasion.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
