5 Arrested After Mokena Car Burglaries: Cops

Mokena Police responded to a call at 5 a.m. Monday about several people looking into cars.

MOKENA, IL — Two men have been charged and three juveniles arrested after burglarizing unlocked cars in the Grasmere and Green Meadows subdivisions in Mokena on May 13, police said. Mokena Police responded to a call at 5 a.m. Monday about several people looking into cars near O'Connell Street and Maurita Court.

Police found five males and after a foot chase, all five were taken into custody. Police said investigation revealed that the five were burglarizing unlocked cars in Mokena.

Cuvante McGruder, 19, of Country Club Hills, was charged with misdemeanor attempted burglary and resisting arrest. He was released on bond pending a court appearance.

Robert Gregory, 18, of Hazel Crest, was charged with unlawful possession of another's debit card, burglary, felony identity theft, misdemeanor obstruction, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property. He was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and as of May 14, he had not been released. Gregory also had 2018 charges of criminal trespass to vehicle and burglary.

The other three taken into custody were juveniles and were released to guardians. Each will be petitioned into juvenile court.
