Applications Open For Mokena Citizens Police Academy

Ever dream of becoming a cop? Here's a chance to learn the ins and outs at the Mokena Police Department.

MOKENA, IL - The application period has begun to enroll in the next edition of the Mokena Police Department's Citizens Police Academy. The academy will run on 12 consecutive Thursdays beginning on March 7, according to an e-mail from the village of Mokena.

Citizens Police Academy programs have risen in popularity in recent years. According to the village, the one in Mokena is free and "designed to inform citizens of the community how the police and criminal justice systems work, and will be presented in a manner enjoyable for all who attend."

All applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.

Classes, which will take place at the Will County Sheriff's facility at 16811 W. Laraway Road in Joliet, will highlight information on traffic stops, the criminal justice system and crime scene processing. A K-9 demonstration, a tour of the coroner's office and a jail tour are also included, according to the village.

All classes will take place on Thursday nights from 7-9:30 p.m.
