“The Walk of Hope is designed to come together as a community to remember and celebrate our loved ones have who have fought or continue to fight their battle against cancer,” said Becca Kovacs. “The loss of a loved one can leave behind pain and heart ache; however, The Walk reminds you that you are not alone. We are all in this together.”

Kovacs, a Mokena resident, is walking in memory of her sister who passed away 7-years-ago from a glio blastoma multiforme brain tumor. The first-time walker and leading fundraiser is using social media, email and old-fashioned networking to promote her efforts and The Center’s work.

For over 20 years, The Center has been here to give strength, guidance and support to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones. The Center is a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization. The programs, resources and services are always delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritionists, and experts; and are provided in a warm, welcoming and nurturing setting at no cost to participants.

In 2015, The Center provided more than 12,400 hours of programming to over 4,500 people. More than 300 women who were losing their hair due to chemotherapy received free wigs, scarves and hats. Offices are located in Homewood, 2028 Elm Road, and Mokena, 19657 S. LaGrange Road, and our programs are also facilitated at several hospitals and cancer centers in our southland communities. The Center is able to provide these resources to anyone regardless of financial ability because of the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations.
