Car Burglaries In Mokena, Offender Seen Carrying Gun: VIDEO

One homeowner in Mokena shared a Ring video which shows an offender carrying what appears to be a gun as they try the locked doors of cars.

MOKENA, IL — Several car burglaries and attempted car burglaries have been reported over the last few days in Mokena. One Mokena homeowner shared a Ring video with Patch, which shows two offenders try the doors on their locked cars, and one appears to be carrying a handgun.

The homeowner told Patch the incident happened at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday in Mokena. When they woke up Tuesday, they saw a Ring notification from neighbors who said car burglaries had happened nearby. The homeowner checked their cameras and saw the footage below.

"It's very unsettling," the homeowner said.

Mokena Police shared an alert with residents Wednesday, saying they were aware of the ongoing car burglaries and thefts in town. At 3 a.m. Wednesday, Mokena Police and Will County Sheriff's office engaged car burglary suspects in the Foxborough and Rivendell subdivisions.

Police said the suspects fled in a stolen car and on foot. One suspect was able to evade police by stealing an unoccupied car left running in a driveway off of Schoolhouse Road.

Police advised residents to stay vigilant, lock cars and remove car keys and valuables from cars. Residents can also become part of the Neighborhood Watch Program and participate in the Video Surveillance Registry.
