Chicago White Sox Pay Tribute to Mokena's Fallen Soldier

A special moment for the family of a local man killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan.

The Chicago White Sox on Friday honored the family of Army Private First Class Aaron Toppen with the opportunity to meet designated hitter Adam LaRoche.

Toppen, a lifelong White Sox fan and Mokena resident, was deployed short after his father’s death. In June 2014, 19-year-old Toppen was killed in friendly fire while serving his country in Afghanistan.

The family members were then called to the field during the second inning for presentation of a jersey that bears Toppen’s name.
