'Cowardly Acts': Mayor Responds To Racist Graffiti In Mokena
Mayor Frank Fleischer called the tagging of racist graffiti on village and business signs in Mokena a series of "cowardly acts."

MOKENA, IL - A series of incidents a weekend ago in which swastikas were found on a variety of road signs and one business sign in Mokena have been denounced by the mayor of the village and called "cowardly acts" by whoever the culprit or culprits are.
“I’ve never felt it appropriate to attribute undue attention to cowardly acts such as this that are generally performed for that very reason—to give the promulgator of the act his or her two seconds of fame," Mayor Frank Fleischer said at a recent village board meeting, comments that were sent from the village to local media Monday afternoon. "That having been said, let me be very clear: The Board of Trustees, the Village Clerk and I in no way condone or accept this type of behavior.”

Mokena police found the graffiti around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22. Two 'Do Not Enter' signs, one stop sign, one speed limit sign and one business sign in downtown Mokena were tagged with the Nazi graffiti. The sign at the private business also included the spray painting of a satanic numeric reference, according to village officials.
In denouncing the vandalism and the nature of the images, Fleischer thanked Mokena Public Works Director Lou Tiberi "for his crew's quick response" in cleaning up the graffiti.
