Families invited to “Trunk or Treat” Event at Saint Mary Mokena

Parish opens first annual Halloween event to children and families from the entire community

Families are invited to Saint Mary Mokena’s first annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event on Tuesday, October 30 from 5 pm to 7 pm. Candy and other treats, including allergy-free options, will be handed out to children from decorated car trunks in the parking lot.

Children will have the opportunity to dress in their Halloween costumes as they “trunk-or-treat” from car to car. Each trunk of treats will be sponsored by a different church ministry, parishioner or local business.

After visiting the cars for treats, children and their families will be welcome to attend a party in the church hall. Snacks, including do-it-yourself trail mix, popcorn, cotton candy, and apple juice, will be provided, and there will be a variety of games. A photo booth will also be set up to capture memories from the event.

Admission will be free with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item for the parish’s upcoming Thanksgiving food drive.

“We are coordinating this as a fun, safe, event for families from the entire community to enjoy,” says Craig Mazur, Director of Youth Ministry at St. Mary Mokena. “In addition to parish families and ministries, several local businesses and institutions are participating. We're anticipating this to grow into an annual family-friendly community-wide event here at St. Mary.”
