Forest Preserve Seeks National Public Lands Day Volunteers
Make a difference in your community by attending a volunteer program on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Hickory Creek Preserve in Mokena.

Sign up for a Volunteer Morning that is being held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day to get some fresh air and exercise while helping to make a difference in your community.
Volunteers will remove brush from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County's Hickory Creek Preserve - LaPorte Road Access in Mokena. Space is limited and an RSVP is required for all individuals and groups.
The National Environmental Education Foundation's National Public Lands Day is "the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands," according to the foundation's website. "Established in 1994 ... , this celebration brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country. "

Individuals who have not yet volunteered must first complete a waiver online. Those with a waiver on file should contact Emily Kenny, volunteer services supervisor, at 815-722-7364 or ekenny@fpdwc.org to reserve your spot.
Participants should dress for outdoor work, including sturdy closed-toe shoes, long sleeves and long pants.

Work will take place on uneven terrain that is primarily natural surface. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this workday should mention their request when registering, or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the volunteer session.
