Franciscan Health Newborns Help Celebrate Nurses Week

Franciscan Health Family Birth Center in Olympia Fields gives free bibs to babies born during National Nurses Week

To celebrate National Nurses Week, Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Family Birth Center is giving all newborns born this week a keepsake “Future Nurse” bib as recognition of the care that nurses provide every day.

To date, five of the Family Birth Center newborns from throughout Chicago’s Southland, including Park Forest, Oak Forest, Matteson, Lynwood and Bellwood, have been adorned and photographed wearing the Franciscan Health “Blue” bib to celebrate nurses.

The vital role played by nurses in the nation’s healthcare system has come to the forefront during the current coronavirus pandemic. During National Nurses Week, the Family Birth Center aims to recognize the courage, commitment and sacrifice of these frontline healthcare workers.

“Compassionate Care is one of our Franciscan values, and we depend on the ability of our nurses, no matter the situation, to deliver care with compassion,” Rebecca Grove, RN, Franciscan Health system marketing director for women and children. “This crisis has shown the resilience of our outstanding nurses in the most trying circumstances.”

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday. And year-round, Franciscan Health recognizes the contributions of nurses through the DAISY Awards, which recognize nurses who deliver extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care.
