Longtime Mokena Trustee John Mazzorana Resigns

John Mazzorana says health concerns led to his decision to resign from the Mokena Village Board, where he's served since 1993.

MOKENA, IL — Longtime Village Trustee John Mazzorana has resigned from the Mokena Village Board citing health concerns. Mazzorana was honored by other members of the board with a resolution and by community leaders from the past and present with gifts of appreciation at his final meeting on April 9, according to a village news release.

Mazzorana was first elected to the village board in 1993 and re-elected six times after that. He was previously a member of the Mokena Community Park District Board for six years.

"Over the past several years I have been dealing with various health issues that now prevent me from devoting the time I believe is necessary to properly represent our residents," he said as part of a lengthy statement he read announcing his resignation at the meeting.

Hersted has lived in Mokena since 2005 and served on Mokena’s Economic Development Commission until she was elected village clerk last year.
