MOKENA, IL — The upcoming election is less than three weeks away, and early voting has already begun. In Mokena, one of the contested local races is the race for District 159 Board of Education. There are three open positions on the board, and Michael Everett is one of the four candidates running.

Everett lives in Mokena with his wife, Karen, and has two adult children and eight grandchildren. He is a retired logistics manager. Previously, he has served as a village trustee of Mokena and as Mokena Village President.

Everett believes the most pressing issue facing the board is the backlog of maintenance projects that precipitated the referendum (which will also be on the ballot on April 2).

"Approval of the Referendum will enable the school district to tackle the priority projects in a very structured sequence," Everett said. "Keeping the students safe and continuing to learn in a safe and healthy manner is a deeply pressing issue."

Everett said he has consistently served Mokena citizens with pride, enthusiasm and perserverance since he won his first election 40 years ago.
