Metra Train Hits Deer In Mokena, Rock Island Trains Delayed

Two inbound Rock Island trains are delayed after the #408 hit a deer near the Mokena station Monday morning.

MOKENA, IL -- Two inbound Rock Island trains will be delayed after a train hit a deer near the station in south suburban Mokena. The inbound Metra #408 train suffered a mechanical failure as a result of the incident at 6:50 a.m., according to a Metra spokesman. Trains could be delayed up to 25 minutes as a result.

Passengers who were on the #408 when it hit the deer will now be transported by Train #412, with their arrival at the La Salle Street station in Chicago being delayed. As a result, Train #410 will also be delayed. The mechanical failure on Train #408 will cause an arrival delay of 20-25 minutes as well, according to the Metra website.

The Metra spokesman said the incident occurred near the Mokena station on Front Street.

Metra officials urge riders to listen to platform announcements for the location of both trains affected.
