Mokena Annexes 191st Street Land For Commercial Development

Village trustees in Mokena have approved an annexation agreement that turns a section of land on 191st Street to commercial zoning.

MOKENA, IL - An area of land on 191st Street has been annexed by the village of Mokena. Trustees in February approved an annexation agreement for a one half-acre land parcel on 191st Street between Revere and Schoolhouse roads, according to a news release. The land "holds future potential for commercial development," village officials stated in the release.

The land that was annexed currently contains a "vacant and dilapidated" home, which will be demolished at a cost of about $16,000 for the property owner. The property owner maintains ownership of the land.

With the village's recent vote, the land is now entitled with C-2 commercial zoning.

"Although no plans are in place for immediate improvement of the newly-annexed land, the possibility now exists for it to be combined with neighboring parcels at a future date in support of a potentially larger commercial development," according to the release.
