Mokena Church to Hold Half-Mile Procession

Saint Mary Catholic Church in Mokena to hold Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, May 29 after the 11 am Mass.

Saint Mary Church is bringing an ancient Catholic tradition to the streets of Mokena on May 29th.

The parish will hold a traditional Eucharistic procession in observance of the feast of Corpus Christi. A rarity in the suburbs, the procession will feature singing from all the church’s choirs and will culminate at the old Saint Mary Church on Wolf Road, which dates to 1864.

"This solemn, time-honored procession, accompanied by our new choirs' beautiful singing, will instill a magnificent, mystical experience in all participants," says Anna Pacek, Choir Director at Saint Mary.

All three church choirs will partake in this special event, including the Adult Choir, St. Cecilia Schola and Children's Choir.

Corpus Christi celebrates the Roman Catholic belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his presence in the Eucharist. Although observed worldwide, actual processions have become less common, especially in the United States. "Our Saint Mary procession promises to be a unique event, both in its grandiosity and scope," states Pacek.
