Mokena Roman Catholic Church to Hold Saturday Evening Parking Lot Prayer Service for its Parishioners this Weekend

St. Mary Catholic Church of Mokena, Illinois, welcomes its faithful parishioners to attend a parking lot prayer service on Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m. (Central) at 19515 115th Avenue.

Nick DiGiovanni, organizer of the event explained, “This is intended to be a peaceful and prayerful gathering in the midst of our crisis.”

A member of St. Mary, DiGiovanni requested and received permission from the parish pastor to host the event, which is supported and promoted by the parish and its parishioners.

“The prayer service is anticipated to last about 45 minutes and will consist of group recitation of the Holy Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, along with Exposition, Benediction, hymns, and a brief introduction and statement of intentions after the opening song,” shared DiGiovanni. He added that the parking lot prayer service will be a lawful, appropriate distancing way for his parish, as an essential service, to offer its parishioners something that is long overdue.

St. Mary Catholic Church in Mokena, Illinois, is a parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet, located at 19515 115th Avenue. Operating since 1864, the historic original small white frame church building of St. Mary German Catholic Church still stands in the heart old Mokena at Wolf Road and 195th Street, off of an old-time Indian fur trade route. Served by three parish priests, Fr. Dindo, Fr. Raed, and Fr. Jacob, the church also operates a school for children in preschool through 8th grade.
